In Detail

Understanding what we treat

Cervical headaches arise from musculoskeletal impairment in the neck. Particularly from structures innervated by the upper three cervical nerves, including the cervical joints and their supporting muscles and ligaments. The cervical spine can be the primary cause of a headache, or it can increase the intensity of an existing migraine. Predisposing factors include poor posture, previous neck injuries, and emotional tension. All compounded by prolonged activities like desk work, driving, or studying.

Sinusitis occurs when an undrained collection of fluid in the paranasal sinuses builds up, causing pressure and pain. Physiotherapy treatment techniques include:

The neck supports the weight of the head (4.5–5 kg, or 8% of body mass) and has a significant range of motion, making it vulnerable to injury. Sitting in front of a screen in poor alignment for prolonged periods causes the body to perceive increased pressure on intervertebral discs as injury, leading to spasm and pain in the upper trapezius, shoulder, and upper arm.

Back pain is worldwide’s single leading cause of disability. 80% of the population will experience it, often first between ages 20 and 40.

Major causes include: improper lifting, poor posture, lack of regular exercise, prolonged sitting, incorrect ergonomics, spinal fracture, disc pathology, and arthritic conditions.

Sports injuries are classified as either traumatic or overuse injuries. Detailed history-taking, thorough assessment, and investigative procedures where necessary are critical to accurate diagnosis. The emphasis should always be on pre-habilitation. Focusing on core stability, body alignment, and preventing muscle imbalances before they become injuries.

More often than not, complications such as weakness, pain, and stiffness develop after surgery. Not because of an unsuccessful procedure, but because the patient is unsure of the exact rate of progression. A structured rehabilitation programme with expert guidance resolves this, reducing pain, restoring mobility, and building strength at exactly the right pace.

“If you know the art of breathing you have the strength, wisdom, and courage of ten tigers.” — Chinese Adage

Breathing is one of the most overlooked aspects of good health. Oxygen fuels the brain and body. Good, clean amounts of it boost physical and mental performance and lower stress. We treat:

Ergonomics is the science relating to human work. Embodying all the mechanical, anatomical, physiological & psychological aspects affecting the efficient use of human energy. The general population pays minimal attention to their musculoskeletal systems, leading to extremely high incidence of postural ‘overuse’ and occupational pain.

The core consists of many different muscles, mainly in the pelvic floor, deep abdominals, and deep spinal muscles. These stabilise the spine, shoulders, and pelvis and provide a solid foundation for movement in the extremities. They must be correctly co-ordinated, balanced, and capable of working continuously.
